FAHM (Filipino-American History Month) is UF’s yearly cultural event held in October. FAHM is geared towards enriching the student body at UF by showcasing Filipino customs and traditions as well as raising pertinent issues affecting Filipinos and Filipino-Americans today.

This year exhibits the best performances and activities yet! Opening with Ate-Kuya-Ading Week (learn more about the AKA Program here) at the beautiful Lake Wauburg, FAHM kicks it off with AKA Week, carries on with the Gawad Kalinga Forum, and holds a Dance Workshop with AKM and Filipino Food Night, Heart of Asia, a Scavenger Hunt, and the ultimate Closing Ceremony to follow.

Can’t wait to celebrate FAHM already? Then here are each of the event descriptions & their Event Pages:

FAHM 2011 Opening Ceremony

FAHM 2011: [Egg]Roll with Gawad Kalinga
Gawad Kalinga (GK) means to “give care” in Filipino. It is a Philippine-based poverty alleviation and nation-building movement. Last Summer, about 10 of our very own FSA pamilya went to the Philippines to help build homes for the less fortunate.

FAHM 2011 brings to you [Egg]Roll with GK where you are not only able to enjoy a delicious Filipino dish, but you are also able to give back to our community. We will be holding a school supply drive in which you are able to donate extra pens, pencils, highlighters, etc. that you may have. You can even bring old notebooks with leftover papers. All these items will go towards FSA’s Gawad Kalinga trip to the Philippines next summer and will be given to all the families. Just think about the difference YOU are making.

Our FSA pamilya who went on the GK trip will also share their most memorable experiences with you. Learn about what GK means to them and how their lives were changed.

[AKM 2011 + FAHM 2011] Rhythm Defined
Asian Kaleidoscope Month and the Filipino American History Month have teamed up this year to bring you RHYTHM DEFINED.

Rhythm Defined is a dance workshop featuring two of the best Filipino American dancers in the nation, Chad Mayate and Law Devera of POREOTICS. They will be speaking about being Asian American in the world of dance at our breakfast/ meet and greet with the choreographers. Then get ready to get your swagger on because later in the day they will be teaching their own hip hop pieces. So don’t forget to put on your dancing shoes because this will be a one event won’t want to miss.

FAHM 2011: A Filipino Feast

FAHM 2011: Scavenger Hunt

ELECTIONS

Election season is near! This time, however, the 2010-2011 Eboard have proposed a revised FSA constitution, designed to clarify and close some of the loopholes in the current one. On April 14, eligible members will vote on whether to pass the revised constitution or not. To read the current constitution, click this link here. To read the new proposed constitution, click over here.

A basic summary of the major additions and changes to the current constitution are as follows:
1.) Voting Methods – explains the procedure of what happens on election day.
2.) Voter and Candidate Eligibility – voters and candidates must have attended at least 5 general body meetings in an academic year and the presidential candidates must have been on a previous Eboard.
3.) Re-order of Eboard Ranking – see proposed constitution for the list.
4.) Clarification of Eboard Responsibilities – see proposed constitution.
5.) Amendments regarding MAFFIA and Chair positions.

It is highly encouraged to read and compare both constitutions to make an informed vote.

Also, if you want to run for an officer position, please contact Theo Urbano at chye...@gmail.com to be a candidate!

——————–

ASSASSINS 2011

It’s the game you’ve all been waiting for. Assassins is currently running sign-ups, but we’re going to try something different. This time around you’ll be working in pairs. You have the option of signing up alone or with a teammate. If you sign up alone, you’ll be paired off with someone. It will be $5 per person and sign-ups will be going on until Wednesday, January 19. Just text or send a Facebook message to JJ Arguelles or LA Mabilangan.

The General Rules:
1. Each assassin pair will be assigned a target pair to kill.
2. Assassin pairs will be assigned a new target pair after both persons of their original target pair are killed.
3. If one person from an assassin pair is killed, the dead person will not be allowed to make the kill him/herself, though the dead person is still allowed to distract bystanders or lure targets.
4. The only people that are allowed to see kills are the assassin pair / target person, hitmen, and the organizers. A target pair can save each other by one witnessing a hit on the other.
5. If after 2 weeks an assassin pair is unable to finish their target pair, hitmen will be assigned to remove the assassin pair from the game.

The Killing Rules:
1. Each assassin will be assigned a weapon. Weapons can be traded among assassin pairs.
2. The weapon must touch the targets chest.
3. The only people that are allowed to see kills are the assassin pair / target person, hitmen, and the organizers. A target pair can save each other by one witnessing a hit on the other.
4. Any other FSA member may not witness a kill. Witnessess have the choice of “ratting out” the hit or “ignoring” the hit.
5. Hitmen shall follow the same rules regarding kills.

Endgame:
The game will run until Formal 2011 or until the last pair standing. If there is a last pair standing, that pair will win 40% of the pot, and the most kills will win 60% of the pot. If there is no last pair, most kills will take 100% of the pot.

This is a new way of play, so we may or may not change these rules leading up to the start of the game. :]
