Site

This domain was registered through Namezero.com on July 12, 2001 and is set to expire on the same day in 2009, with mucho thanks going to FSA alum Donald Verde for the purchase. After hosting it under my (Karizze) reseller for nine months (and before that, it had been hosted by Mark Villena using his Plaza account), I finally got separate hosting for uffsa.org, courtesy of HostGator.com.

Uffsa.org has the Baby Croc plan from Host Gator, which gives it 600GBs of space and 6,000GBs of monthly bandwidth.
And yes, you read the zeros and Gs correctly. ;)

The entire site is powered by WordPress, “a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability” (their words), to allow future E-board members to update the site without having to learn much about HTML and FTP and all that other jazz. I can’t always be FSA’s webmaster, lol. The only non-WP-powered part of the site is the Gallery, which is run by ZenPhoto.

Current Layout

The current layout you see on the site was made entirely in Adobe Photoshop CS2 using brushes from Go Media and the default ones included in Photoshop. The layout also uses stock images from stock.xchng and photos from FSA’s very own photographer, Jonathan DelRosario.

The handwriting and doodle on the ‘Upcoming Event’ part of the layout is, yep, all mine, and wouldn’t be possible without my handy dandy Wacom tablet. :D

The font used for the big ‘UFFSA’ is called Palsu.
The font used for the navigation is called Shangri-La.
Both are free [for personal use] and can be downloaded over at DaFont. :]

Credit also goes to Famfamfam’s Silk icons for the icons that appear under each post’s avatar.

This layout is valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS 2.1. It also passes the Section 508 requirements for accessibility.
This layout is also as cross-browser compatible as I could get it to be, displaying properly using Mozilla 2.0.0.14, IE6, IE7 and Safari 2.0.4. I gave up on Opera 9.24 halfway through, lol, because Snoop tells me only 3 people have accessed the site using it, and it’s highly likely that those were all me. XD I don’t have IE8 (my default installation is IE6 and I have a standalone version of IE7), hence it not being on the list, but if you do and you’d like to check it out for me (complete with printscreens if there’s a problem and stuff), drop me an email! ;)

Past Layouts

This site definitely had a lot more past layouts than what I currently have (which, right now, is 1, lol), but I try to do my best. ;P

Layout 01: FSA Celebrates its 20th Year

Theme Name: FSA Celebrates its 20th Year
Author: Mark Villena
Version: 1.5
Description: This layout was all designed by Mark Villena, who was the webmaster for FSA before I arrived into the picture. Previously coded in Dreamweaver by Mark, I recoded the layout from scratch and made it valid XHTML 1.1 [Transitional] and CSS 2.0. I also integrated the layout with WordPress and featured a dynamic submenu in the pages that needed it.

WordPress Plugins

This site would not be possible without the help of these amazing plugins:

  • Akismet for filtering spam comments received on this site.
  • Fluency Admin for a much better looking WordPress control panel.
  • Post Avatar for the custom avatars that appear beside each post, kinda like LiveJournal icons.
  • Sideblog for the Upcoming Event section.
  • WP Database Backup for automatic MySQL backups sent to my email every day.
  • WWW Redirect for the automatic redirect to use the www extension when visiting the site.
